The former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu and popular face on the Television show, The Kapil Sharma Show, has found himself in trouble for his comments on Pulwama attack. Soon after the unfortunate incident last Thursday, Sidhu defended Pakistan saying that a nation should not be blamed as terrorism doesn’t have nationality and religion.
Ever since then, there is a negative wave going around him and there have been also calls for boycotting Kapil Sharma’s show where Sidhu is a guest. Though there has been no official word from the Sony Channel or Kapil of removing him from the show. Meanwhile, the Indian Film and Television Directors’ Association (IFTDA) passed a resolution on Tuesday to take a pledge of not working with Navjot Singh Sidhu for his controversial comments on Pulwama attack.
“14th February 2019 was a black day when Forty Two Jawans of CRPF were killed at Pulwama with a bomb blast by a suicide bomber of Pakistan. There were protests all over India, aggrieved and anguished with the pain of the loss of Sons of India who sacrificed their lives for the safety of their countrymen.
“The nation joined to pay tribute to the brave Jawans, in this melee, Mr. Navjot Singh Sidhu gave some unsavoury comments on this matter, which irked the whole nation. It was at this moment, our mother body FWICE requested Sony Entertainment Channel to terminate his services from the Kapil Sharma Show and he was sacked.
“The mother body took another major decision of banning all the Pakistani artists and singers in the Film, TV and Entertainment industry. Indian Film & Television Directors’ Association fondly called IFTDA passed a resolution to take a pledge not to work with Mr. Navjot Singh Sidhu and Pakistani Artists and Singers for a homage to the martyrs,” the statement released by the IFTDA read.
Sidhu’s clarification
After a massive outrage on his comments, Navjot Singh Sidhu had come up with a clarification on the same. He also felt that his comments were blown out of proportion and also condemned the dastard attack. “I was only saying that we need to find a permanent solution to the problem of terrorism. Why should soldiers be made to suffer each time? Such attacks have been happening for the last 70 years,” he was quoted as saying by NDTV.
