Sam Curran, England’s all-rounder, played a pivotal role in his team’s victory against India at Edgbaston in Birmingham. His knock of 63 runs in the second innings of the contest turned out to be consequential. He also notched five wickets in the match. In the next match at Lord’s, he did well with the bat, but unfortunately, was dropped for the third Test at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.

Nevertheless, he was drafted back into the eleven for the fourth encounter at The Ageas Bowl in Southampton and he hasn’t flattered to deceive thus far. He came to bat after the Three Lions were reduced to 69/5 after 26.3 overs. However, the situation didn’t ruffle Curran by any means and he went on to score 78 runs in 138 balls with the help of eight boundaries and a six.

It’s just a great squad

Most importantly, he shouldered the Brits to 246 runs and was the last wicket to fall. In the meantime, Curran mentioned that he was dejected after being dropped for the third Test while admitting that there’s cut-throat competition for places in the English Test squad. He also vowed to not change his style of play and sounded happy for being able to learn from the experienced members of the team.

“I’m not going to change the way I play it’s just who I am. I was unlucky obviously last week to miss out. But I love being around the squad. There are some great names in the team, and I’m learning so much,” Curran told the reporters after the end of the first day’s play.

“I was disappointed (at being dropped in Nottingham), but at the same time took it as a positive. You can’t really leave someone out who’s got a hundred (Chris Woakes at Lord’s). It’s just a great squad at the minute, and everyone is fighting for their places,” he added.
