Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman and former all-rounder Imran Khan recently tied the knot for the third time, this time with his spiritual advisor, a woman named Bushra Maneka. Pictures of Khan’s marriage have gone viral on the social media. Coincidentally, his nikaah was performed by Mufti Saeed, the same priest who had performed the ceremonies for Khan’s second marriage with TV anchor Reham Khan.
Two unsuccessful marriages
Khan had first tied the knot with Jemima Goldsmith in 1995, but after nine years of marriage, the relationship ended in divorce in 2004. His second marriage lasted only ten months. Several reports had in the past suggested that the former cricketer was quite depressed due to his unhappy love life and often asked people to pray for his healthy personal life.
“Marriage is the combination of two hearts and two souls, which join each other on this special day of your wedding. Wishing you two a very happy and blessed married life!” PTI Information Secretary Fawad Chaudhry tweeted.
“To set the record straight, Mr Khan proposed marriage to Ms Bushra Maneka, but Ms Maneka asked for time to make a final decision after consulting her family, including her children,” a statement from Khan’s political party had previously stated.
In the wake of the third marriage, Twitterati is having its own share of laugh, perhaps because more than one marriage is not a usual phenomenon in India. And fans from both the countries anyway do not leave a chance to start a new internet meme on one another.
While some joked about Imran Khan upgrading his wives faster than people upgrade their phones, others pointed out how he eventually settled for a ‘hijaab’ clad woman after his first two wives having been more modern with their clothing.
