Javed Miandad, the former batsmen from Pakistan was known for his hard-hitting and ferocious knocks back in the 90s. He changed the dynamics of batting while playing for his national team. Moreover, he is arguably one of the best batsman ever played for Men in Green.

Still, he was excluded from Pakistan cricket team for three years before playing his last World Cup in 1996. The fans didn’t know much about the reason behind his ouster. But now in an exclusive interview, Basit Ali, who played between 1993 and 1996 for Pakistan, has revealed every detail related to Miandad’s exclusion from the national team.

In 1992 Pakistan lifted their maiden World Cup trophy under the captaincy of Imran Khan. By that time, he had already earned the reputation of a world-class all-rounder. On the other hand, Javed Miandad had already played five World Cups for Pakistan. He was the most experience batter in the side.

In 1993, Men in Green management– under the captaincy of Wasim Akram– replaced Javed Miandad with Basit Ali. And after that ouster, it took three years for the former legendary batsman to mark his comeback into the national side just for playing in his sixth World Cup.

Basit Ali comes out with a surprising revelation

In an exclusive interview, Basit Ali has come out with some surprising revelations that will leave every fan in shock. He said that there was a conspiracy in the team to remove Javed Miandad back in 1993 and he was used as a pawn.

Bast Ali told that he used to bat at No.4 position and had an average of 55. But, he was asked to play at No.6 position when Miandad was removed. Basit Ali also said that it was Imran Khan, who gave the orders to remove Javed Miandad from the side.

“There was a conspiracy to remove Javed Miandad from the team (around 1993). That’s why I was being compared with him. Honestly, I was not even one per cent of what Miandad was. I used to bat at number 4 and when Miandad was removed, they shifted me to number 6. Wasim Akram was the captain at that time, but the man who was responsible for Miandad’s ouster is the one who used to give the orders and that was Imran Khan,” Basi Ali said as quoted Times of India.

According to Ali, Javed Miandad’s name was not there in 1996 World Cup squad. So, Miandad came to every player and requested to let him play as he wanted to create the record of most appearances in the marquee event.  Ali also added that it was the time when he was playing at his best. But, he also had great respect for Miandad due to which he sacrificed his place for Miandad.

“I am going to share something you might not be aware of. I have been quiet because of my country. Miandad wasn’t included in the 1996 World Cup squad. His name wasn’t there initially. I was there in the 15-member squad. But he came with a request to the players and said he wanted to play the World Cup. He asked us – who will give me his spot? He wanted to make the most World Cup appearances record. So, I pulled out,” Basit Ali added.
