After losing the Test series to South Africa 2-1, India made a great comeback in the One Day International series by securing the first ODI in Durban by a margin of six wickets. Chasing a target of 270, the Indians never looked uncomfortable and always ensured a firm grip on the game. They lead the six-match ODI series by 1-0 now with the following ODI to be played this Sunday in Centurion.

The South Africans on the other hand never looked comfortable after winning the toss and electing to bat first. They were rattled down early by the Indian bowlers. They particularly struggled against the duo of Indian wrist spinners. In the 20 overs that Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav bowled, they picked 5 wickets conceding only 79 runs. However, the Proteas ensured that they crossed the 250 run mark courtesy a brilliant century from skipper Faf du Plessis.

Virat Kohli drives India past the winning line

One of the best chasers the game has ever witnessed, Virat Kohli yet again scored a magnificent hundred chasing down 270. The Indian skipper with the company of Ajinkya Rahane ensured that there was no chance of India losing the game. Rahane scored a brilliant 79 before he threw his wicket away in an attempt to finish the game off quickly.

Kohli, on the other hand, stayed focussed and took the team almost through. But he lost his wicket away just a few runs before the target. Hardik Pandya and former skipper MS Dhoni ensured that they didn’t lose any wickets further and helped India get through. Dhoni started off his innings with a boundary which was also the number of runs required by India to win the game.

India’s head coach Ravi Shastri was thrilled with the victory. Also, he was amused to see the support from the Durban crowd. He donned his commentator hat in the team bus and shot a video of the fans cheering team India. He said that the fans were crazy after the game and added that it looked like scenes back in India.
