India slip to number 4 in ICC ODI rankings

After a thrilling win over Australia in the first ODI of the Chappell-Hadlee series, New Zealand have surged to number 3 spot in the latest ICC rankings. Meanwhile, team India, who recently won the home series against England, have moved to the fourth spot in the list. Both India and the New Zealand team have a rating of 112 to their name.

However, the Kiwis edge out due to the fact that they have played fewer ODIs compared to the Indian team in the recent past. Australia came very close to winning the first ODI against New Zealand after Marcus Stoinis struck an unbeaten 146 in the game. Despite their 6 run defeat, the Aussies continue to top the ICC ODI rankings at the end of January 2017.

The Proteas, who are currently playing Sri Lanka at home, have managed to stay at the second spot with 117 points – 2 points behind the list toppers Australia. If the Proteas manage to whitewash Sri Lanka in the ongoing series, they will have a very good chance to make it to the top of the chart.

England remain at the fifth spot after losing 2-1 to India recently. The Eoin Morgan-led side had 107 ratings to their name and Sri Lanka find themselves next with 100 rating. Meanwhile, Bangladesh continue to stay ahead of Pakistan in the standings. Pakistan were recently drubbed 4-1 in the ODI series down under and no wonder they are under threat of failing to qualify for the World Cup 2019. Much to their relief, only two points separate the Asian side. Bangladesh had 91 ratings as against Pakistan’s 89.

Afghanistan has made it to the top 10 ODI rankings and have 52 ratings to their credit. West Indies find themselves at 9, with 86 points. With the Champions Trophy coming up, expect a lot of change in the standing as a plethora of ODI fixtures are bound to come in the way for the preparations leading into the ICC mega event.
