India U19 team tasted great success at the ICC U19 World Cup this year. They beat the Australian U19 side by 8 wickets in the finals to notch up the ultimate glory. The star performer for them in the match was opener Manjot Kalra. Kalra scored a brilliant ton to guide India in the modest run chase. Earlier in the tournament, Kalra played decently enough to retain his place as Prithvi Shaw’s opening partner in the tournament.

Now, Kalra has returned back to his home town, New Delhi. Recently, he met the Chief Minister of New Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal. Kejriwal congratulated Manjot Kalra for his impressive performance in the tournament. As per the reports in Times of India, the Delhi government also assured Kalra of any assistance that he would ever need in the future from the government.

Kalra all smiles

The social media handle of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) – the party which Arvind Kejriwal is the leader of – posted a picture of the meeting on their official social media handle. In the picture, Manjot Kalra is seen all smiles with the Delhi CM.

“We all are very proud of you (Kalra), not only Delhi but the entire nation is looking forward to your career ahead,” a statement quoted the chief minister as telling Manjot Kalra during the meeting.

In other news, the Rajasthan Government has announced a cash prize of INR 25 Lakh for Kamlesh Nagarkoti. While Manjot Kalra was one of the stars of the tournament for the team with the bat, Kamlesh Nagarkoti was a big find in the bowling department. Among the other stars of the tournament, the names of Prithvi Shaw and Shubman Gill stand prominent.

While Shubman and Shaw are playing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy at the moment, Manjot found no place in the team Delhi for the domestic tournament. Reportedly, Kalra spoke to the Delhi selectors about the same. However, since the Delhi squad was finalised long ago, his chances of being in the side became improbable. Kalra can still hope to make it to the squad for the knockout stages of the tournament though.
