India faltered in the seam-friendly conditions in the Dharamsala ODI after losing toss which happened to be Rohit Sharma’s maiden game as skipper. The home team were bowled out for just 112 which wasn’t possible without the former captain MS Dhoni’s 65-run when India looked certain at recording the lowest ever total in ODI history. Suranga Lakmal bowled ten overs outright for a 4-wicket haul while Nuwan Pradeep bagged a couple of crucial middle order wickets. Sri Lanka lost a couple of wickets before cruising to a 7-wicket win by the 21st over.

1 – India scores at fall of their 5th, 6th and 7th wickets in this innings at 16, 28 and 29 respectively are the lowest for them in an ODI. They lost their 5th wicket for 17 in the 1983 CWC game against Zimbabwe and their 6th wicket at 39 in Sharjah ODI in 2000 which was also against Sri Lanka. India lost their 7th wicket at 43 previous in the Toronto ODI against Windies in 1999.
4 – Number of maidens Suranga Lakmal and Nuwan Pradeep bowled in this game. No other bowler has bowled more than three maidens in an ODI since the 2015 Cricket World Cup.
11 – India’s 11 runs in the first ten overs are the fewest by them in an ODI since the start of 2001. They made 16 runs in an ODI in Christchurch against New Zealand in 2003. These 11 runs are also the fewest in the first ten overs in the current powerplay format.
13 – Suranga Lakmal’s 13 runs are the joint fewest a bowler conceded in his ten overs in an ODI in the last eight years. Jason Holder also conceded only 13 runs after bowling all his ten overs against Pakistan in 2013.
13 – The 13 maiden overs India played in this game are the most by them in an ODI game. India played 12 maidens in an ODI game against New Zealand in 1981 in Auckland and in the 1975 CWC game against England in Lord’s.
18 – Dinesh Karthik’s 18-ball ducks is the most balls faced duck by an Indian in ODI cricket. Jasprit Bumrah also bagged a 15-ball duck in this game.
112 – India’s total of 112 in this game is their 3rd lowest total in a completed ODI innings at home. Sri Lanka bowled India out for 78 in Kanpur in 1986 while Windies bundled India out for 100 in 1993 ODI in Ahmedabad.
171 – Number of ODI matches Rohit Sharma played before leading India. These are the 2nd most number of ODIs any player represented in India before their first game as a skipper. Anil Kumble led India for the first time in his 218th ODI game.
176 – Sri Lanka chasing down the target with 176 balls to spare is India’s biggest defeat in a home ODI in terms of balls remaining. This is also their 3rd worst defeat in terms of balls remaining after the 209-ball defeat in 2010 and 181 balls in 2012 in Dambulla and Hambantota respectively which were also against Sri Lanka.
16048 – MS Dhoni became only the 6th Indian to complete 16000 runs in International cricket. He is only the 2nd player after Kumar Sangakkara to complete 16000 International runs while playing as a wicketkeeper.
