Going into the final game of the series at VCA Stadium in the Orange City, all that Sharma’s men needed was to maintain the winning momentum to seal the series and they did just that. With half-centuries from KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer after a rare failure with the bat for stand-in skipper Rohit, India posted 174-5 in 20 overs which they defended successfully- courtesy a splendid display of bowling.

The immensely talented Kerala wicket-keeper batsman has been on the Indian cricket team radar for quite some time given his consistency with the willow in IPL as well in the Indian domestic circuit. The 24-year-old grabbed the headlines during the 2019-20 Vijay Hazare Trophy having registered the highest List A score by wicket-keeper in the world.

It was also the highest List A score in Indian domestic cricket when he amassed 212* off 129 balls against Goa. Samson, who made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe at Harare back in 2015 was rewarded for his consistency across formats with a spot in the Indian team for the T20I series against Bangladesh.

Expectations were high for Sanju Samson to get the nod ahead of Rishabh Pant who wasn’t that impressive behind the stumps and if not at least to strengthen the middle order especially after the collapse at Delhi. Unfortunately, he was overlooked for all three matches much to the surprise of fans who wanted to catch a glimpse of the player in Blue jersey.

While brother Deepak Chahar produced a Man-of-the-series winning performance with eight wickets in three matches, young Rahul Chahar warmed the bench throughout the series. The leg-spinner who represented the Rising Pune Supergiant before being bought by Mumbai Indians at the 2018 IPL auction, impressed everyone with his spin web during 2019 IPL.

It that edition, he picked up 13 wickets in 13 matches at an economy of 6.55. Courtesy his exploits in the IPL, Rahul made his T20I debut against West Indies in August this year where he finished with the figures of 1/27.

Had India wrapped-up the series at Rajkot, they could have tested their bench strength by drafting Rahul Chahar into the XI at Nagpur. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the case and the 20-year-old’s wait for his second T20I appearance for Team India continues.

The Chennai Super Kings pacer whose last T20I appearance was way back in March 2018 at Nidahas Trophy final is yet to cement his place in the Indian squad. Unfortunately, he couldn’t make the XI despite his comeback into the squad after quite some time. With Khaleel Ahmed proving expensive, Shardul was expected to replace the left-arm seamer for second as well as third T20I.

The Bangladesh batsman targeted Khaleel who registered economies of 9.25 and 11.00 in the first two games. But the team management decided to stick with Khaleel thereby depriving Shardul of any chances of making the XI.

With fellow CSK colleague Deepak Chahar in fine form,the team management had no other option but to be bench him for the entire series. Only time will tell whether or not the 28-year-old who made his Test debut against West Indies in October 2018 will cement his place in the Indian squad across formats.
