The Chennai Super Kings pacer whose last T20I appearance was way back in March 2018 at Nidahas Trophy final is yet to cement his place in the Indian squad. Unfortunately, he couldn’t make the XI despite his comeback into the squad after quite some time. With Khaleel Ahmed proving expensive, Shardul was expected to replace the left-arm seamer for second as well as third T20I.

The Bangladesh batsman targeted Khaleel who registered economies of 9.25 and 11.00 in the first two games. But the team management decided to stick with Khaleel thereby depriving Shardul of any chances of making the XI.

With fellow CSK colleague Deepak Chahar in fine form, the team management had no other option but to be bench him for the entire series. Only time will tell whether or not the 28-year-old who made his Test debut against West Indies in October 2018 will cement his place in the Indian squad across formats.
