India have registered an emphatic victory against England in the first match of the ODI series being played in MCA stadium, Pune. The hosts were asked to bat first after losing the toss in this game. The Indian team had a good start with openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan sharing a 64-run opening partnership. Dhawan missed out on a brilliant century falling for 98 runs off 106 balls. Krunal Pandya played a magnificent knock on his debut scoring 58* runs off only 31 balls. India put up a total of 317/5 in their quota of 50 overs.

In response to this target, English openers played a blinder and crossed the 130-run mark in only the 14th over. However, once their first wicket fell, their batting line-up collapsed like a pack of cards. England lost their last 9 wickets for only 116 runs and got bundled out for 251 runs losing the match by 66 runs. Prasidh Krishna picked up 4 wickets for 54 runs in 8.1 overs on his debut. Shardul Thakur also played a crucial role in helping India win by taking 3 wickets for 37 runs.

58 – Krunal’s score of 58 is the highest individual score for an Indian debutant while playing at number 7. He became the first Indian to smash a half-century batting at number 7 on ODI debut.

187.07 – The strike rate of Krunal in his innings was 187.07, which is the highest ever for any debutant with a minimum score of 50 runs in the innings.


Prasidh Krishna breaks big record

4 – Prasidh Krishna picked up 4 wickets for 54 runs and registered best bowling figures for an Indian on ODI debut.


Virat Kohli’s feats

104Virat Kohli registered his 104th 50+ score in ODIs and surpassed Jacques Kallis (103) in the record tally to attain the fourth spot.

10000 – The Indian skipper completed his 10000 runs at home across formats. He is the fastest to complete 10000 international runs at home achieving the landmark in 195 innings.


Dhawan falls in 90s

5 – This was the fifth time Shikhar Dhawan got out in the 90s in an ODI match. Among Indian openers, he is at the joint third spot in the tally.

48 – This was Dhawan’s 48th 50+ score in the ODI format, and he equalled Virender Sehwag in this regard to attain joint fourth spot.


Landmark for Indian opening duo 

31 – This was the 31st instance when Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan shared a 50+ opening partnership in ODIs. They are only behind Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly (44) in this record.


Pandya brothers play ODI for the first time

3 – Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya became the third pair of Indian brothers to play an ODI together. Before them, Yusuf Pathan and Irfan Pathan, and Mohinder Amarnath and Surinder Amarnath played in an ODI together.
