India have performed brilliantly against England in the second Test of the series being played at Chepauk. They continued their batting from the first day’s score of 300/6, however, their innings didn’t last long. India were bowled out for 329 runs with wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant hitting a couple of sixes in the end. Pant played an unbeaten knock of 58 runs off 77 balls with the help of 7 fours and 3 sixes. Rohit Sharma top-scored for India with a 161-run innings.
The English batsmen looked completely puzzled on the pitch against the hosts. They got all-out for a score of 134 runs in their first innings. Wicketkeeper-batsman Ben Foakes top-scored for the visiting team with an unbeaten knock of 42 runs. Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers for India with figures of 5/43.
The home side scored 54 runs at the loss of 1 wicket till the end of the second day’s play with a total lead of 249 runs. Rohit Sharma is currently batting at the crease with 25 runs off 62 balls to his name. Opener Shubman Gill was dismissed for an individual score of 14 runs by Jack Leach.

England create a unique record
0 – England did not concede a single extra run in their bowling in the first innings. India’s score of 329 is the highest innings total in Test matches without any extra runs. Before this, India held this record for their bowling performance against Pakistan in Lahore Test 1955, with Pakistan’s score being 328
Ravichandran Ashwin’s exceptional record against Left-Handers
1 – Ravichandran Ashwin became the first-ever bowler in Test history to complete 200 wickets against Left-handed batsmen. He is ahead of Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan in this regard who had 191 left-handed victims in Test cricket.
Other milestones achieved by Ravichandran Ashwin
268 – Ravichandran Ashwin has now picked 268 wickets in India. He surpassed Harbhajan Singh (265 wickets) and is only behind Anil Kumble (350 wickets) in terms of most Test wickets in India. He is at fifth spot among spinners with most Test wickets at home.
29 – Ashwin completed his 29th 5-wicket haul in Test cricket, and surpassed Glenn McGrath in this regard. Among spinners with most 5-wicket hauls in Test cricket, he is at fifth spot in World.
23 – This was Ashwin’s 23rd fifer at home, and he has surpassed England’s James Anderson. The off-spinner is now at fourth position among bowlers with most 5-fers at home.
27- Ashwin also equalled Anil Kumble in terms of 5-wicket hauls in Asia grabbing joint-third spot with 27 five-wicket hauls in the continent.
Pant’s wonderful form continues
4 – Rishabh Pant scored fourth fifty in four consecutive matches for India. He has also hit 4 fifties in his first 4 matches in India.
14 – Rishabh Pant has hit 14 sixes in the World Test Championship(WTC) till now. He has most sixes in WTC among wicketkeepers.
31 – Pant has a total of 31 sixes in Test cricket to his name. Since his debut, only Ben Stokes (37) has hit more maximums than him in the longest format.
Duck for Stuart Broad
36 – Stuart Broad got out to Ashwin without scoring any run in his innings. With 36 ducks, he is now at the joint-second spot with Chris Martin in terms of most ducks in Test cricket. Courtney Walsh of West Indies has the most Test noughts (43) to his name.
