After completing the thrilling last match of the five-match T20I series on March 20, the two cricketing superpowers India and England will feature in three One Day Internationals, starting from Tuesday, March 23 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.

On Friday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced an 18-member squad for the upcoming ODI series and a few selections managed to stun the Indian cricket enthusiasts. Suryakumar Yadav, who presented a spectacular show by racking up a fifty in his debut international innings, got his maiden ODI call-up too.

Apart from Surya, right-arm seamer Prasidh Krishna also got his maiden call. Though many young players have found a place in the Indian ODI squad owing to their performance in the domestic circuit or other formats, there are chances that a few might not get to play even a single game and thus could warm the bench for the whole series.

Here are 5 Indian players who may not get a chance in the ODI series

1. Shubman Gill

The young opening batsman Shubman Gill is considered a promising prospect of the future of the Indian cricket team. Owing to his temperament and character, the 21-year-old has managed to find a spot for himself in India’s Test team at the top of the order but the same might not be the case in One Day Internationals.

Unlike the Test team, India has a settled top-order in ODI in the form of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan opening the innings while the skipper Virat Kohli coming up at number three. This has been a match-defining combination for the Men in Blue and the chances of them making any changes or experiment are extremely slim.

Coming to Shubman’s ODI career, he made his debut in 2019 against New Zealand in the fourth ODI after Kohli decided to rest for the two matches considering that India had already clinched the five-match series by 3-0. Batting at Number 3, Gill had an ordinary debut as he could score only 9 runs. Thus far, Gill has featured in 3 ODIs, scoring just 49 runs at an average of 16.3.
