India was up against England on the 2nd day of the 2nd Test match in Chennai, where they dominated the game in all departments. After getting bowled on 329 runs in the first innings, India wrapped up the show of visitors on just 134 runs. After taking up an enormous lead, the hosts were back again with the willows, where they ended the day’s play after collecting 54 runs on the loss of one wicket.

Though the 2nd Test is being talked about in terms of India’s dominance so far, there is another aspect that is gripping the limelight day by day. And that aspect is umpiring howler. Even on the 1st day of the 2nd Test, the 3rd umpire came under all the questions after he misjudged the review of Ajinkya Rahane referred by visitors. Something similar happened on the 2nd day as well, where the on-field umpire denied the wicket of hitman Rohit Sharma to the England side.

In this particular incident, the guests reviewed an lbw on Jack Leach’s delivery where Sharma hid his bat beside the stumps and kicked away a delivery from the left-arm spinner. The on-field umpire was of the notion that Rohit played a shot and signalled ‘not out’. After seeing the shot, even Sunil Gavaskar added- “That is no shot offered, from what little I know of batting.”

When the ball tracking was revealed, it showed the ball crashing into the middle stumps straight. Even Rohit was heard admitting that he hadn’t played a shot, and Ben Stokes suggested that batsman knows that he got lucky. Frustrated Joe Root didn’t agree at all with the umpire’s decision and couldn’t clearly hide his temper on the field. The match resumed after a while, and currently, Sharma and Chetshwar Pujara are up for India on the crease and will take the game ahead tomorrow.

Ravi Ashwin’s magic puts India on top on day 2 of the 2nd Test

In the stunning bowling performance that India flaunted on day 2, the major credit went to ace spinner Ravi Ashwin who bagged a classy fifer to make things easy for his team. Ishant Sharma and debutant Axar Patel got two wickets under their belt, while Mohammad Siraj had a single one on his credit.
