As if the pain inflicted by Team India on England in the ongoing Test series was not enough, Virat Kohli gave Joe Root yet another reason to grimace after hitting the England skipper’s groin with a throw. The incident took place on day three of the fourth Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad where Root and his teammates are trying their best to avoid another defeat.

The incident happened in the 18th over of England’s second innings when the English skipper was facing spinner Axar Patel. On the fifth ball of the over, the left-arm spinner bowled a flighted delivery which was turning away and Root pushed it towards point. It was all fine till that point before Virat Kohli came running from the covers, picked the ball, and delivered a poor throw.

While he would have liked to throw the ball straight to wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant who was standing behind the stumps, Kohli threw the ball in front of the stumps where Root was standing. Fortunately for Root, the ball bounced in front of him and did not hit him directly. But unfortunately for him, he failed to judge the bounce.

As soon as the ball bounced, Joe Root spread his legs to evade the ball but failed and it ended up hitting him at the spot where it hurts the most. It was followed by the usual reaction as Root looked in pain and was heard saying: “Virat, come on”. The India skipper then quickly walked up to his England counterpart and apologised as the batting stars made up with a fist bump.

Here is a clip of the incident:

England in a spot of bother

As far as the game is concerned, India are looking set to win the ongoing game after putting up a strong show with both bat and ball in the first innings. After bowling out England for 205, India recovered from 80 for 4 and then 146 for 6 to post 365 thanks to Rishabh Pant‘s 101 and Washington Sundar’s unbeaten knock of 96. In the second innings too, England have faltered again with the bat and will have to do their best to even avoid an innings defeat.
