India registered their biggest win in terms of runs in their Test history. They thrashed New Zealand by a massive 372-run margin in the second Test at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai to win the match and also the series 1-0. Jayant Yadav gave the finishing touches on the fourth morning as he ended with four scalps handing the Kiwis a crushing defeat. Jayant Yadav’s best bowling figures in Tests gave Virat Kohli his 39th win in Tests as captain.
Despite Indian spinners and Mayank Agarwal dominating the match, the Test will be truly remembered for the near-impossible feat achieved by Ajaz Patel who etched his name in the history books by taking all ten wickets of India’s first innings. He didn’t stop there as he was Kiwis’s go-to man once again in the second innings as he accounted for more four wickets to end up with 14/225 in the Test.
His match figures are the best for any bowler against India in the longest format of the game. His mind-boggling record is also the best by any visiting bowler in Indian conditions. Patel’s heroics of 14/225 is also the best bowling figures in a match in a losing cause.
Mayank Agarwal was adjudged the Player of the match for scoring 212 runs in the Test and Ravi Ashwin was declared Player of the series for taking 14 wickets and scoring crucial runs. The win keeps India unbeaten for a record 14th time at home as the team will be heading to South Africa next to play three-match Test series while New Zealand will be hoping to forget this Test and the tour as they welcome Bangladesh for two-match series starting on New Year’s Day.
