He is one of the two Indian bowlers to have claimed a five-wicket haul in all the three formats – Tests, ODIs, and T20Is. However, injuries have made him irregular in the national team and after playing the three T20Is and ODIs against the Windies earlier this month, pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has found himself left out in the cold once again. The 29-year-old talented seamer did not get a place in the Indian squad picked for the three T20Is against South Africa next month.

Bhuvneshwar, who got seven wickets in the six matches that he played in the Caribbeans, including a four-for in the second ODI at Port of Spain, was replaced by all-rounder Hardik Pandya for the SA series. While it seemed the man has been rested, a report said that the reality is not so and Bhuvneshwar was not available for selection since he is unwell.

“Bhuvneshwar has not been given rest. It is claimed that he is unavailable because he is unwell,” Times of India quoted a source as saying.

Bhuvneshwar missed a few games in WC because of injury

Bhuvi was part of the Indian squad that played in the World Cup and was ruled out of some games with a groin injury that he had sustained during the Pakistan clash at Old Trafford on June 16. He returned in the later phase of the tournament and was also picked for the limited-over games in the West Indies but not in the opening Test.

He received an injury ahead of the Test series in England last year and has not played in a long-format game since January 2018. The fast rise of Jasprit Bumrah and consistent performances by Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami in the red-ball format has made it even more difficult for Bhuvneshwar to make a comeback.

Bhuvneshwar, who made his international debut in 2012, has played 21 Tests, 114 ODIs and 40 T20Is so far taking a total of 234 wickets. Indian selectors also ignored the likes of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal for the T20I series against the Proteas. MS Dhoni marked himself unavailable for the series.
