India’s New Year will kick start on Sunday when they face Sri Lanka in the first game of the 3-match T20I series in Guwahati. India had a tough 2019 in the T20I format but the series against West Indies at the end of the year gave them the much-needed confidence.

Sri Lanka has been quite unpredictable in the last couple of months in the T20s where they whitewashed Pakistan in Pakistan before losing 0-3 to Australia in Australia. With Rohit Sharma taking a break from this series, Shikhar Dhawan’s future in the T20I format is likely to be decided with KL Rahul doing enough recently to secure his place as an opener.

All the key stats and numbers ahead of the 3-match T20I series between India and Sri Lanka:

5 – India won each of their last five T20I matches at home against Sri Lanka. The winning streak at home against Sri Lanka began after the 5-wicket defeat in the 2016 Pune T20I.

4/4Virat Kohli scored a fifty in all the four matches he played against Sri Lanka in the T20I format. He has scored 283 runs across the four innings at an average of 94.33. He is the 2nd highest run-getter in India-Sri Lanka T20Is behind Rohit Sharma’s 289 runs. Rohit played 13 innings for those 289 runs and is not part of the series starting on Sunday.

8-1 – India won 8 of their last nine matches in the T20I format against Sri Lanka. The 5-match win in the 2018 Nidahas Trophy opening match brought an end to Sri Lanka’s 7-match losing streak in T20Is against India.

8-0 – The 2nd T20I of this series will be played at the Holkar Stadium in Indore where India won all the 8 International matches they played. No other team has played more than six matches at a venue in International cricket with 100% win record.
