After the ongoing Test series against Bangladesh, there is no respite for team India as they are scheduled to host the West Indies for three ODIs and as many T20 Internationals in December. The team has been playing continuously this year without a breather and the workload of some of the players is being managed. Virat Kohli rested for the T20I series against Bangladesh and now Rohit Sharma is likely to be given a break.

India’s limited over vice-captain has been playing regularly since the start of the year. Including IPL’s 16 matches, Rohit has featured in more than 60 games so far and concern over his workload is increasing. Moreover, he has also become a regular in the Test team now and there seems to be a need for him to rest ahead of the more busy schedule.

Rohit Sharma not to keen on resting

According to the reports in Mumbai Mirror, Rohit Sharma is not keen on resting as of now but the team management may convince him looking at the future international assignments. The decision on the same will be taken on November 21 when the selectors will meet in Kolkata to pick the ODI and T20I squad for the West Indies series.

Rohit, in that case, is likely to miss the three-match ODI series against West Indies slated to commence on December 15. The T20I series, also comprising of three matches, will begin on December 6. India are set to tour New Zealand next year for close to 40 days where they will face the home side in 5 T20Is, 3 ODIs and 2 Test matches. And the team wants their premier batsman to be fresh and fatigued for the tour.

Meanwhile, if Rohit Sharma is rested, there is a possibility of Mayank Agarwal being drafted into the ODI squad. He was the part of World Cup squad earlier this year having replaced the injured Vijay Shankar but didn’t play any game.

Agarwal has shown amazing form with the bat in the ongoing home season scoring two double centuries and looks to be in contention to make it to the limited-overs set-up sooner rather than later. However, even if he is picked, the opener might not get the chance straight away with KL Rahul waiting in the wings. Even Shubman Gill might get another go after a brief stint with the side during the New Zealand tour earlier this year.
