India and Windies will be soon taking the field in the fifth and final One-Day International in Thiruvananthapuram. The visitors have opted to bat first making two changes to their side. One of the best performers for them in this series, Ashley Nurse is not playing the game and at the toss, their captain Jason Holder informed that the off-spinner has been ruled out of the entire tour.
Windies have included Devendra Bishoo in the team for Nurse and also picked Oshane Thomas at the expense of the top-order batsman Chandrapaul Hemraj. “Looks a good wicket, looks dry as well. Ashley Nurse is out, Devendra Bishoo comes in. Hemraj is out, Oshane Thomas is in. Nurse is out of the entire tour. We have to be consistent, a lot more consistent to beat the best teams. We’ve shown glimpses but we need to do it more often. Our batters need to take responsibility,” Holder said at the toss.
Cricket West Indies (CWI) is yet to announce Nurse’s replacement for the upcoming T20I series which is scheduled to start from November 4.
Nurse injury details
Ashley Nurse felt some pain in his bowling shoulder during the fourth ODI itself in Mumbai. Soon after bowling a couple of overs, he went off the field after suffering from a little bit of pain. However, Nurse returned to the field and bowled eight overs for 57 runs picking a solitary wicket Rohit Sharma.
But he wasn’t effective at all with the white cherry in hand. Even in the lead up to the final ODI, Ashley Nurse’s right hand was covered like it was fractured. It will be interesting to see who replaces him in the line-up for the T20I rubber.
