India perhaps took their loss against the Windies in the third ODI in Pune too seriously and came back blowing away the opponents twice in the next encounters to win the five-match series 3-1. The fifth and final match in Trivandrum was over in less than 50 overs as Virat Kohli’s men ended the game in less than 15 overs after the Windies were shot out for a meagre 104 in 31.5 overs.

The dominating victory was naturally a reason of joy for the Indian supporters and one of the country’s most prominent all-rounders, Hardik Pandya, too chipped in congratulating the Men in Blue. Pandya, who is nursing an injury after he left the field on a stretcher during the Asia Cup in September because of an acute back pain, is yet to feature in any engagement – domestic or international – but he did not forget to wish his mates on their well-earned win. He posted a tweet on Thursday saying it was a “super series win”.

India won the first match of the series in Guwahati by eight wickets but saw the second match in Vizag getting tied, thanks to a spirited show by the Windies. The visitors then went on to win the third match by 43 runs to level the series. Rohit Sharma came up with an innings of 162 in the fourth ODI in Mumbai which buried Jason Holder’s men before the hosts wrapped it up in Trivandrum. Kohli, who hit three consecutive tons in the series, was adjudged the Man of the Series.

Kohli said after the fifth match that Ambati Rayudu, one of India’s three centurions this series, and young pacer Khaleel Ahmed were India’s gains from the series.

Pandya was ruled out while playing his first game in Asia Cup

Pandya, who featured in India’s gruelling tour of England a few months earlier and had on and off moments, was in the squad for the Asia Cup but collapsed because of the injury in the first match he played in the tournament which was against Pakistan. He could bowl only 4.5 overs in the game conceding 24 runs before being carried off.
