India are all set to play the first of the three matches in the T20I series at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Prior to the 20-overs fixtures, India played a Test and an ODI series and emerged victorious in all the matches. For the Windies, the match is a nostalgic one for the reason that they are returning here after their 2016 World T20 victory, defeating England in the final.

In the meantime, it has been learned that Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the Indian fast bowler, won’t be a part of today’s playing eleven against Carlos Brathwaite’s Windies and it was announced by Indian interim captain Rohit Sharma. The 28-year-old speedster has a gastric complaint owing to which he won’t be able to take the field. The fast bowler has stayed back at the hotel.

Replacement announced

However, he is expected to be fit for the second match in Lucknow on Tuesday, November 6. The team management announced a 12-man squad for the match yesterday. The Meerut-born pacer was a part of the squad back then. He has been replaced by 31-year-old Umesh Yadav, who wasn’t initially a part of the squad. India won the toss and had no hesitation to field first.

Bhuvneshwar has been a tad of colour in recent times. Previously, he has been in and out of the national team way too many times because of a persistent back injury. Moreover, the pacer also has leaked runs. Rohit has had an impressive time as a skipper of late. He was the skipper in the Asia Cup where India stormed to their eighth victory in the history of the championship.

He was outstanding with the willow too and scored big almost everytime. Even in the ODI series against the Caribbean team, the Nagpur-born cricketer scored a couple of centuries. He would be looking to deliver with the bat and help his team to complete a hat-trick of series wins. To add to his delight, he has a jaw-dropping record with the bat at the Eden Gardens.
