Team India has been dealt with a blow ahead of the five-match ODI series against the Windies as Shardul Thakur has been ruled out. He sustained an injury during the second and final Test match on his debut against the same team and couldn’t take part further in the game. The fast bowler was also the part of the Asia Cup but was sent back during the league stage due to the groin injury. This time around Thakur is suffering from a right adductor tendon injury.

Umesh Yadav has been named his replacement in the squad who has been immediately rewarded for his heroics in Hyderabad Test. The official website of the BCCI revealed the news of Thakur being ruled out of the series. However, this presents a great opportunity for Umesh to cement his place in the ODI side in the absence of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah who have been rested for the first couple of matches.

Umesh will be high on confidence after a resounding performance in the Test matches and will be keen to carry the momentum in the shorter format.

Dissecting the ODI squad

As far as Team India’s ODI squad for the first two matches is concerned, the skipper Virat Kohli continues to lead the side while Dinesh Karthik has been axed. Kedar Jadhav’s spate of injuries continue and after a decent Asia Cup, he is once again on the sidelines. Manish Pandey and Ambati Rayudu will be auditioning for the much-debated number four slot it seems.

Also, the bowling attack has witnessed the return of the Test regulars in Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav. The spin-twins Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav continue to play more matches in the lead up to the World Cup and should trouble the visitors who looked out of ideas against the spinners in the Tests.
