India defeated Bangladesh in the first-ever Day-Night Test played at the Eden Gardens. And, after the conclusion of the game, the Indian skipper hailed the performance given by his team. But, with the flow, he gave a statement that didn’t go down well with Sunil Gavaskar and the former Indian cricketer came out in order to take a dig at Virat.

The hosts defeated Tigers by a margin of an innings and 46 runs. Virat smashed the 27th ton of his career whereas, on the other hand, the Indian pacers showed their domination over the batting line-up of Bangladesh. The trio of Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami, and Ishant Sharma looked lethal with the ball and was one of the main reasons behind Team India’s emphatic win.

After the match, Virat said that the boys have the hunger to win the games. The bowlers are now mature enough to overcome the difficult situations that arise in the game. And, the players are reaping the rewards for their hard work that they were doing from the last three to four years. He also added that it is the winning legacy of Sourav Ganguly (Dada) that the team is taking forward.

“It was all about getting into their heads and getting them out which used to happen, but now we have learned to stand up and give it back. It all started with Dada’s team and we are just carrying it forward. The bowling group now is fearless and they believe in themselves playing against any batsman. We are reaping the rewards for all the hard work we put in the last three-four years,” Virat Kohli said as quoted by Hindustan Times.

Later on, Sunil Gavaskar took a dig at Virat and said that it is nice to speak good things about the BCCI President. But, he may not know that Team India had won quite a few series in the ’70s and ’80s as well. And, many people think that Indian cricket started in 1994 or 2000 and it is wrong.

“The Indian captain said that this thing started in 2000 with Dada’s team. But India was also winning in the 70s and 80s. A lot of people still think that cricket started only in the 2000s. But the Indian team won overseas in the 70s. The Indian team also won away in 1986. India also drew series overseas. They lost as other teams did,” the former Indian cricketer told the broadcasters.
