Prince of Calcutta, Sourav Ganguly, believes that India holds the upper hand against Bangladesh in the second semi-finals of the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy. He further stated that India holds a 70% chance of winning the contest.

India topped Group B after winning their match against South Africa. India also defeated their arch-rivals Pakistan in their first match. However, in the second leg of the round-robin stage, India faced defeat at the hands of Sri Lanka. India came back with a clinical performance after restricting the batting heavy lineup of South Africa under 200 as Dhawan and Kohli chased the required total with ease to cruise into the semi-finals of the tournament.

However, Bangladesh entered into the semi-finals from the group of death which featured world class sides such as New Zealand, Australia and Bangladesh. They were in no position to qualify in between the innings break of their match against Australia. However, rains and England came into some assistance for Bangladesh to qualify for the semi-finals. Australia was knocked out by the home side after Bangladesh pulled off a sensational win against Kiwis.

When Sourav Ganguly was asked whether he was surprised about seeing the Tigers in the semi-finals,  he instantly denied any such though and commended the efforts of the team which played good quality cricket in the tournament.

India hold a 70% chance of winning the match

“No, no, why would I be surprised? Bangladesh has played good cricket and qualified to the semifinals on their own merit. I am very happy for Bangladesh. It was a great battle between Bangladesh and New Zealand here in Cardiff. They also have to put up a similar performance against India, otherwise, they will not be able to get the better of India” commented Sourav Ganguly on Bangladesh’s chances in the semis.

“India’s possibility of winning is 70 percent. And definitely, I would like to see India win. But Bangladesh always plays very well against India. Even in the last World T20, they came so close to beating India. I still don’t get it how Bangladesh did not win the match.” concluded Dada.
