India’s leading wicket-taker from the previous edition, fast bowler Umesh Yadav returned home with 18 wickets in 8 matches. He formed a solid partnership alongside Mohammed Shami, which kept another primetime option in Bhuvneshwar Kumar out of the XI in World Cup 2015 played Down Under.

The speedster, however, failed to live up to the expectations after the tournament and suffered the same fate as Raina and Rahane. He had his moments in some of the bilateral series, but his inability to restrict the run flow or bowl in the death overs to good effect was always going to be a disadvantage.

He has attributed that to not getting longer ropes in white ball cricket but that did turn out to be a barricade for his dreams as the Vidarbha pacer was left out of the squad announced for World Cup 2019.
