Not many are even aware of the fact that Ambati Rayudu was a part of the Indian World Cup squad back in 2015. His performances for the Mumbai Indians and Baroda at the domestic level earned him a call-up but didn’t get to feature in the playing XI even once, since the team had a settled sort of batting line-up.

This time around, he had a much better opportunity in hand, which went out of hand by the skin of his teeth. The Hyderabadi cricketer only has himself to blame. He got the longest rope among all contenders for the number 4 slot and even played against Australia a few weeks back, which was India’s last International assignment before the World Cup.

Despite having great support from the captain and management, his poor form and lack of consistency was the only reason Vijay Shankar managed to edge past him in the final team.
