With the Board of Control for cricket in India (BCCI) yet to pick the Indian side for the upcoming Champions Trophy, the board will surely have a tough time to pick the squad as a lot of players would be in contention to make it to the same.

While the three-member selection committee looking to strengthen India’s bowling combination, it would not be an easy task to select the fourth pacer in the squad as they need to make a choice between Ashish Nehra and Mohammed Shami.

The cut-off date for the squads to be announced is 25th April before which all the countries need to submit their teams. But the BCCI has stated they will wait till the 24th of April when the ICC meeting will be held.  The date of the selection committee meeting has not been finalized as some of the members of the board want to resolve the ICC issues regarding revenue sharing and governance first.

Ravichandran Ashwin is all set to start his training next week and Jadeja being an automatic selection in the squad due to his all-round abilities. So the point of focus will be the fifth member of the pace attack which could be either Nehra or Shami.

Jasprit Bumrah due to his death bowling abilities is an obvious pick in the squad along with last year’s purple cap holder Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Speedster Umesh Yadav and bowling all-rounder Hardik Pandya are also likely to make the cut considering their fitness and form.

Shami has successfully proved his worth in the longest format of the game but has last played an ODI match back in 2015 against Australia in the world cup semi-final. On the other hand, Nehra made his comeback into the Indian side in the shortest version of the game in 2016 and has bowled notably well.

However, according to top BCCI officials, skipper Virat Kohli has a slight inclination toward Nehra as he an experienced customer and can read the situations of the game well. He could also be a great help for the youngsters in the squad.
