India is currently in a 21-day lockdown period due to the coronavirus pandemic. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, every other sporting assignment has come to a halt. From domestic to international, a number of series had to be shelved. Cricket has also taken quite a hit during this phase. The start of the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) had to be postponed from March 29 to April 15.

The World Test Championship has also faced the wrath of the novel virus, which has taken the lives of plenty around the globe. Even as there’s no cricket, Star Sports, one the major sports broadcasters, has been streaming old cricket matches for the fans to get entertained. A few historic matches have already been shown, making the supporters travel down the memory lane.

The final of the 2011 World Cup where MS Dhoni’s six took India to victory was also telecasted. India’s victories again Pakistan have also been shown. Due to the lack of cricket, the fans can expect for more cricket from the past in the next few weeks. The ICC are also premiering some historic matches in their official Facebook page.

In the meantime, HS Prannoy, the ace badminton player, was a tad unhappy as Star Sports was showing highlights of old cricket matches and not of any other sports. Immediately, he asked for other games to also be played on the television for the people to enjoy.

He took to Twitter and wrote, “A small request from my side to @StarSportsIndia. Cricket is being shown 24×7 in Starsports on this lockdown period. Would be a great help if you can telecast other Sporting events too. Kids would benefit big time.”

Star Sports was quick to spot the message. Replying to him, they shared a schedule of the matches. “We hear you, Prannoy! We are glad to inform you that we have a variety of other sports lined up for our viewers to enjoy – Wimbledon & French Open, fast-paced action from F1, including classic races, and Football, to name a few,” the reply read.
