The Indian team for the remaining three ODI’s of the India vs West Indies series has been announced. Along with the ODI’s team for the lone T20 was also picked by the selectors. There is only one change to the current ODI team where Akshar Patel makes his way into the team.
Akshar had an impressive IPL last season for the Kings XI Punjab following which he also made his debut for India in Bangladesh. He repeated good performance in the Champions League T20 last month, being the second highest wicket taking spinner.
The T20 team looks similar to the 50 over’s squad the few names that pop up for the 20 over’s game are Stuart Binny, Karn Sharma, Sanju Samson and Manish Pandey. All of whom have been in and around the 15 members squad which has been picked during recent tournaments. It will be interesting to see if these young ones find themselves a spot in the XI as there is only one T20 to be played. Looking at the fact that West Indies are a twenty-twenty specialist team and the ruling World T20 champions, MS Dhoni would not take a chance.
The selectors also announced the team which will give West Indies a challenge before the actual test begins. West Indies are scheduled to play a 3 day game with the Board President’s XI before the test series.
Suresh Raina will lead the BPXI, Rohit Sharma will make his comeback from injury after he had multiple fractures during India’s tour of England. He has been completely out of cricket since then a List A game will be his chance to claim his spot in the test team and also for the following tour to Australia.
By this Suresh Raina also gets his chance to stake claim for his position in the test team. The Indian test team surely lacks a good slip fielder, with so many catches being dropped in England. Raina also adds so much energy being a live wire on the field; the Indian team looked a completely different unit since he was introduced in the ODI series in England. An impressive warm-up game and Raina might book himself a ticket to Australia.
