Indian team for the ICC World T20 and Asia Cup announced

The Senior Selection committee, headed by Sandeep Patil met today in New Delhi and picked the Indian team for the upcoming Asia Cup and the World T20 2016. There were no major changes in the squad that was recently picked for the Sri Lanka series. Mahendra Singh will lead a well-balanced squad with the mix of youth and experience in it.

The batting order looks perfect with Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane and Suresh Raina in the line-up.

Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Patel add freshness to the squad while the experienced head of Ashish Nehra, Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh is always an advantage for the team. Ashwin and Jadeja will be the strike bowlers in the subcontinent conditions. Pawan Negi, who recently received his maiden international call-up, also makes the cut for both the multi-nation tournaments. The squad looks settled and ready to go.

India would play a three-game T20 series at home against Sri Lanka from February 9, ahead of the multi-nation Asia cup and World T20.

The Asia Cup is slated to be held from February 24 to March 6, after a four-team qualifying event to spot one qualifier for the tournament proper from February 19-22. India take on hosts Bangladesh in the tournament opener at Mirpur followed by matches against arch-rivals Pakistan on February 27, Sri Lanka on March 1 and the qualifiers on March 3. This is the first time the Asia Cup is being played in the T20 format, in a change from the earlier 50-over competitions.

ICC World T20 2016 starts in 8th March India will start out as one of the favorites in the tournament. The Indians are one roll in this format after they recently clean sweeped Australia in their own backyard and reached to the top of the rankings.
