Virat Kohli led Team India has a great chance to reach at the top of the rankings across all the formats of the game by the end of their home season. They are currently involved in a 5-match ODI series against Australia which they have already won by claiming the first three matches. They are in the middle of the golden run in and have won their last 9 games in the 50-over formats. The cricketing fraternity is showering praises on the team and the former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar believes that they have the potential to go down as the best ever.

India reached the top of the rankings in the limited overs format by winning three consecutive matches against Australia. They currently have 120 points against their name and are a point ahead of the second-placed South Africa. Men in Blue need to win at least one of the remaining two matches in the series to remain at the numero uno position. Also in the Tests, Virat Kohli led side is way ahead and are sitting pretty with a 15 point lead over the Proteas.

India need to beat Australia and New Zealand in T20Is

The Indian team is at the top of the rankings in Tests and ODIs simultaneously for the first time in their cricket history. However, they have a great chance to reach the number one spot in T20Is as well. As far as the shortest format is concerned, they are at fifth in the rankings with 116 points as the Kiwis lead the charge with 125 to their name. However, they will play a total of 9 T20Is until December in their busy home season, 3 each against Australia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka.

If the Men in Blue manage to usurp their first six T20 Internationals against the Kangaroos and the Kiwis, then they can perch at the top of the rankings in the shortest format as well. Though the target is a tough one, this team has shown they are capable of achieving greater heights and fans and players themselves would back them to do it.
