In a year that turned out to be memorable for India especially in Tests, the Virat Kohli-led side deserves a lot of credit for their overseas performances. From being a spin dominant bowling attack to becoming one of the best fast bowling sides in the history of the game is already a massive achievement. India has registered two consecutive Test series victories in Australia since 2018 alongside taking a 2-1 lead in England this year as well.

It has to be remembered that the mojo started with the famous victory at the Wanderers in 2018 and has become a habit for the Indian side now. Breaking records that have been held together for a long time is not easy and this Indian bowling attack has shown a lot of character.

The fast bowling group at present in the Indian team has been averaging 26.05 with a strike rate of 51.7 in 23 Tests since 2018 which is the best in SENA countries for touring teams. Sanjay Manjrekar did not hesitate to compare the current Indian side to the famous bowling attack of Pakistan.

Sanjay Manjrekar voices out on overseas performances

Former Indian batter, Sanjay Manjrekar mentioned that the luxury of the Indian pace attack that has boosted the chances of overseas wins and noted it to have played a huge role. India did face a lot of injuries in Australia but the inexperienced fast bowlers who had been on the bench had stepped up and created history.

“One thing that has changed in recent 5-6 years for the Indian team, which has been a rare instance for India. India’s overseas success comes because India now has the luxury of having three world-class seam bowlers. It has had a huge impact,” Sanjay Manjrekar told in conversation with ESPN Cricinfo

The Pakistan seam attack in the early 2000s was one of the toughest to face. Manjrekar did play in the era of the famous world-class bowling attack from Pakistan of Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and Shoaib Akthar and noted signs of it in the current Indian setup.

“If you look at the history of Test cricket, earlier when Pakistan used to win outside their country, they too had 3 world-class seamers. And now India find itself in the same condition. These are good signs for Indian cricket,” he added

India will be hoping to produce another massive performance in Johannesburg, South Africa, which will be a big milestone reached as well.
