Karnataka batsman Mayank Agarwal has been shattering records in the ongoing season of Ranji Trophy this year. He has looked in amazing touch and so far has amassed 1064 in six matches for his side. Karnataka also qualified for the quarterfinals and most of the credit goes to the youngster who thrived every time he strode out to the middle to bat. However, is coach Irfan Sait feels the selectors should pick in the Indian team immediately else it would be injustice on the cricketer.

Mayank is currently sitting pretty at the top of the list of the highest run-getter for the tournament. He has scored his runs at an average of 133 and has featured in all of the six matches for his team. Anmolpreet Singh from Punjab is second in the list almost over 300 runs behind him. Karnataka will face Mumbai in a high-profile encounter in the quarterfinals on December 7 and he would hope to contribute more in the game.

I am not at all surprised

The coach of Mayank Agarwal, Irfan Sait, was not at all surprised with the form of the batsman and felt he should be picked in the Indian team right away. “To be very honest I am not at all surprised. This was due for a long time. He should have done it much earlier, happened a bit late. To be honest, if the selectors don’t pick him for the Indian team now, it is absolute injustice. I don’t know how but the selectors have to find a spot for Mayank Agarwal in the Indian team,” he said during an interview to International Business Times, India.

Irfan also recalled how the advice of Mohammad Azharuddin helped Mayank a long way in his career. “Once, I wrote on his bat, ‘Be happy and play’. And he did that. These lines I picked up from Mohammad Azharuddin. When Azhar visited our academy he has seen Mayank and now too he is aware of his performances. Even now Azhar visits our academy and guides us,” he added.
