April 2 has a special place in MS Dhoni’s life. He hit the most iconic shot in Indian cricket history on April 2, 2011, to win the World Cup and 7 years from that day he has been conferred with the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award in the country by the President of India on the very day. In an event hosted by the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Dhoni received the award donning the army colors.

He was one among the two individuals from the sporting community who were picked for the honour. The other was Billards World Champion Pankaj Advani. Dhoni was dressed in his Army uniform for the event. The honorary lieutenant colonel in the territorial army wears this uniform with a lot of pride.

The Rashtrapati Bhavan posted an image of Dhoni and Ram Nath Kovind on their official Twitter handle and mentioned that Mahendra Singh Dhoni is one of India’s most successful captains and the only captain to win all the three ICC titles.

Dhoni on April 2 had become only the second Indian skipper after Kapil Dev to win the World Cup title and the first ever to do it on home soil. On that very day, he walked in the Rashtrapati Bhavan and stood in his lieutenant colonel uniform in front of the Commander in Chief of the Armed forces accepting the Padma Bhushan.

Once his name was announced he stood up and marched like a typical army man. He followed the right decorum – saluted the President who is the commander of all the armed forces as he approached towards him.

Then again when he reached his position saluted the President again and the first citizen of India then put the badge on his uniform. He also handed him the letter stating the same.

Being one of the most loved cricketers around the world Dhoni has fans across the border as well and his Pakistan fans posted special messages for him on social media.
