Brisbane was the venue this time when the famous miscommunication between these two Indian batsmen came to the fore yet again. Unfortunately, Kohli was the man to go back to the dressing room. India had lost the first ODI and opted to bat first at the Gabba in order to level the series. But they lost the wicket of Dhawan early in the third over.

Kohli and Sharma once again bailed the team out of the trouble and notched up a 100-run partnership. Both had added 125 runs when Kohli tucked the ball to fine leg and set off for a double. The fielder, Kane Richardson, however, quickly gathered the ball and threw it to the wicket-keeper who disturbed the timber. Kohli even dived to get into the crease but all in vain. Once again, Rohit stood firm and slammed a heroic ton eventually being run-out as well on a well-made 124.
