The Pakistan Test squad for their tour of Ireland and England has recently been announced. A 16-man squad has been selected comprising of several youngsters who are yet to make their debut in the longest format of the game. Imam-ul-Haq, the nephew of the legendary Inzamam-ul-Haq has also found a place in the squad for the maiden occasion.

Meanwhile, there has been an outrage over the alleged nepotism for Inzamam giving preference to his family member and not prioritizing the requirements of the team. Following the accusations, the former Pakistani all-rounder has finally opened up on the decision and mentioned the same to have taken by the other coaches as well as the selectors.

The revelation by Inzamam

Picking Imam is a tough decision but this is one decision I didn’t take. People might be cynical about this but the head coach [Mickey Arthur], batting coach [Grant Flower] and other selectors made the decision to select Imam,” Inzamam was quoted as saying by ESPN Cricinfo.

Also, Inzamam hailed Imam’s progress as a cricketer and tried to defend himself by mentioning that the left-handed batsman was in contention for selection even before Inzamam’s appointment as the chief selector. Imam made his debut last year against Sri Lanka at Abu Dhabi.

The report given by trainers and coaches about Imam showed a significant improvement in his skill and fitness levels. He was already in the system even before my becoming selector, so associating me shouldn’t be a point of discussion,” the chief selector mentioned.

Imam made a stupendous debut in ODIs as he raced away to his maiden century in 125 balls, which included five boundaries and a couple of sixes. The Lahore-born cricketer has an impressive record at the first-class level as well having notched 1792 runs in 34 games at an average of 43.57 with four tons to his credit.
