Former Pakistan captain and the present chief selector in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Inzamam-ul-Haq has heaped praises on middle order batsman, Babar Azam. Azam has cemented his place in Pakistan’s one-day international team after registering three consecutive centuries against the West Indies in 2016. Inzamam expressed his desire to see Azam become one of the best batsmen in the world and also said that kids like him are a proof that Pakistan’s cricketing future is bright.

In 31 ODI games, Azam has scored 1455 runs at an average of 53.88. That includes five centuries and six half centuries. He has been a rising star for the Men in Green at a time when they are still not very up to the mark in their batting department. The 22-years-old, the first cousin to Kamran and Umar Akmal, has in a short time achieved such feats which experienced players can only dream about. He is also the second fastest cricketer to score five ODI centuries from 25 innings, only second to South Africa’s wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock, who achieved the feat in just 19 innings.

Expressing himself on Twitter, Inzamam wrote: “This kid is such a talent, mA. Want him to see top the world’s batsmen list. Guide such kids with love. They are future. They are Pakistan.”

“Shadab Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Hasan Ali and Rumman Raees are all stars of the future, but Babar Azam would soon become a world class batsman,” Pakistan local media quoted Inzamam as saying.

A mainstay of Pakistan’s less established batting line-up

Ever since his first century against the West Indies, the young batsman has been establishing himself as a mainstay of Pakistan batting. With the next ODI World Cup less than two years away, players like Azam and Fakhar Zaman can bring hopes to Pakistan for the elite silverware in England.
