Inzamam-ul-Haq steps down as Afghanistan's head coach

Inzamam-ul-Haq is set to don a new role for Pakistan cricket after the PCB decided to appoint him as the new chief selector of the Pakistan team. The formal announcement is likely to be made on Monday or Tuesday.
Former players Iqbal Qasim, Mohsin Khan and Rashid Latif were also few names which were been taken under consideration but eventually the PCB zeroed in on Inzi. Following the appointment as the chief selector, the 46-year-old quit his present job as Afghanistan’s head coach.
Inzamam is one of the legends of Pakistan cricket. He played 378 one-day internationals and 120 tests for Pakistan. He also skippered the national team in 31 Test matches & 87 ODIs. The former cricketer has also served as the team’s batting consultant for a brief period in 2012.
Inzamam has been quite instrumental in Afghanistan rapid growth and was the man behind the series win against Zimbabwe and Afghanistan’s journey till the Super 10 stage where they earned loyal fans for their outstanding play.
ACB Chief Shafiq Stanikzai said he had received a request from his Pakistan Cricket Board counterpart Shaharyar Khan to release the former batting great from his contract.
“Today Shaharyar Khan called me and asked a favor to release Inzamam-ul-Haq as they are keen to hire him,” Stanikzai told reporters.
The PCB got into a ‘swift revamp’ mode after the Pakistan cricket teams recent debacles which created a huge furore in the cricket-mad country. All the controversy forced the T20 skipper Shahid Afridi and head coach Waqar Younis to resign. Pakistan exited the World Twenty20 after losing three of their four games in the Super 10 stage. The Asia Cup tourney prior to the mega event was also a debacle.
