Young Gujarat Lions batsman Ishan Kishan has had a much improved IPL season this year. The former India U19 skipper has played a few handy cameos for the Lions this year. He had started off with his place in the side as the middle order batsman. However, the team soon felt that he was being underused this season. He found himself being promoted to the opening slot and reaped rich dividends since then.
Well, he might have had a good outing this season but the team largely failed to replicate their good performances from the last season. The Lions are out of the contention for the playoffs and that explains the kind of season they have had. They suffered yet another defeat in their most recent outing against the Delhi Daredevils at Kanpur. They set a target of 196 to win for the Daredevils in the game.
A fine display of batting from young Shreyas Iyer saw the DD side eke out a narrow 2 wicket win in the very impressive run chase. In the post-match press conference, Ishan Kishan reflected back at how things perspired for the team in the previous game. He noted that the bowlers failed to stick to their plans and that hurt the team big time. Moreover, he credited Iyer for his brilliant knock with the bat.
“In the beginning, I think we bowled in the right areas, in the middle overs the plan was to bowl on the wickets but that was missing from the bowlers. Thing is Iyer [Shreyas Iyer] also played a very brilliant knock, he was just not hitting the ball but watching and playing the ball into the gap. So the credit goes to him also,” quoted Ishan Kishan.

Talking about his own game, he noted that it is not possible to be an out and out hitting batsman in every scenario of the game. Success is not guaranteed in that form of the gameplay. But, on a given day, the batsman can surely smack any bowler is he gets in full flow.
“Mine, yes, it definitely affects that match when you’re scoring good runs you go in the same flow but the thing is it does not work out when you are going into the batting zone just going and hitting. You may not succeed in that but still you never know, you have to play on your strength. So if you have a good day, you can smack any bowler,” Kishan quoted.
