The 10th season of the Indian Premier League kicked-off at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad where the home side Sunrisers Hyderabad started off their quest of defending the title over the Royal Challengers Bangalore, who they defeated in the last season’s final. A brilliant batting effort gave SRH a huge total of 207/4 which was defended by them quite easily as they registered a 35-run win in the opening game. Here we look at all the records and stats happen during the game.
1 – For the first time in IPL, both team captains in the opening game of a season are foreigners. David Warner led Sunrisers Hyderabad while Shane Watson led Royal Challengers Bangalore in the absence of Virat Kohli.
3 – Rashid Khan became the 3rd player from an associate nation to feature in an XI in IPL. Netherlands’ Ryan Ten Doeschate and Kenya’s Tanmay Mishra featured for KKR and DC respectively.
6 – Number of Twenty20 games RCB has lost at Hyderabad so far (Including a Tie). No other team excluding home IPL franchises (DC & SRH) have lost more than 4 games at the venue in the T20 format.
23 – Balls taken by Yuvraj Singh for his fifty in this game, his fastest in IPL. Previous fastest fifty for Yuvraj in IPL was in 24 balls for RCB against RR and DD in 2014.
55 – Runs conceded by Aniket Chaudhary in his debut game in IPL, the 3rd most by any player on his IPL debut. Michael Neser conceded 62 runs on his IPL debut.
62 – Yuvraj Singh’s 62 in this game is his highest score in Twenty20 cricket since his 68* for RCB in 2014 vs DD. Since then he scored 4 fifties in T20s before this with only one coming in IPL. He scored 57 vs MI in 2015 for DD.
68 – Number of consecutive Twenty20 matches in which Virat Kohli has led Royal Challengers Bangalore before missing out in this game, the 2nd longest streak for a team by a captain. Gautam Gambhir has an unbeaten streak of 91 games leading KKR in Twenty20 cricket.
100 – Number of wickets taken by Ashish Nehra in IPL. He became the 8th bowler and 4th pacer to take 100 wickets in IPL. He is the only left-hander in among the 8 bowlers.
101 – Catches taken by David Warner in Twenty20 cricket. He became the 15th player to take 100 catches in the T20 format.
144 – Number of consecutive Twenty20 matches in which Virat Kohli has represented Royal Challengers Bangalore before missing out in this game, the 2nd longest streak for a team by a player. Suresh Raina featured in all 156 T20s played by CSK.
353 – Number of fours Shikhar Dhawan has hit in IPL. He became only the 4th player to hit 350 boundary fours in IPL.
207/4 – Sunrisers Hyderabad’s total of 207/4 in this game is their 2nd highest total in IPL. Highest is 208/7 which came during the last season Final against RCB only.
2010 – Last time Royal Challengers Bangalore lost their first match of the season. They have won in each of their first matches from 2011 to 2016 seasons.
