Delhi Daredevils one of the stronger bowling line-ups in this edition of the IPL restricted the batting heavy Mumbai Indians to an under par 142 but relying on the young Indian batters can backfire. While the 170s and the 180s even the 200s have been chased often the 140s have proved tricky. The opposition bowlers come hard bowling at everything and the batsmen fail to find the right approach.

Something similar happened to the Daredevils as they faced the pacey Mumbai Indians bowling attack. Mitchell McClenaghan ran through the top order in his first spell and then Jasprit Bumrah and others choked them before Kagiso Rabada and Chriss Morris gave them the fight but it wasn’t the day for an upset and Delhi couldn’t climb the mountain of the Wankhede they have failed to touch the summit since 2010.

Parthiv Patel – 2/10

The Mumbai opener was up against the young Kagiso Rabada and the veteran Zaheer Khan with both of them bowling to a plan and moving the ball as much as the white ball was willing to Patel couldn’t play his shots.

His stay of 11 balls ended with just 8 runs as Rabada fired in a Yorker that struck at the base of the leg-stump. It was his maiden IPL wicket in his debut game.

Jos Buttler – 4/10

After starring in the team’s emphatic win in the last game at Indore Buttler got off to a good start here as well. Though his partners were stuck and couldn’t get the ball beyond the ropes the English wicketkeeper-batsman scored 28 in 18 with three 4s and two 6s to challenge the DD bowlers. A poor call from Nitish Rana cost Buttler his wicket as he was nowhere near the crease as Sanju Samson got the direct hit onto the stumps.

Nitish Rana – 2/10

Rana has been a revelation for MI this season but it was not his night tonight. He first was involved in a runout call that sent Buttler back to the hut and then in his attempt to accelerate the inning that was languishing he hit Pat Cummins in the air and was caught in the deep by Corey Anderson having scored just 8 runs from 9 balls.

Rohit Sharma – 2/10

While his team has registered 6 wins in this IPL season thus far, the most by a team and is on the top of the table skipper Rohit Sharma has scored just 54 runs in the 7 matches with one score of 40* being his only double digit score. He picked the wrong’un and swept DD leg-spinner Amit Mishra towards deep backward square leg but only for Cummins to complete a good catch running towards his left.

Kieron Pollard – 4/10

The scoreboard was reeling and the MI team management looked up to Pollard to get them the runs and lead the batting innings to a total of substantiality. He took his time, scoring only of the balls he was most certain against and taking minimal risk at the start. It was one of those rare games where Pollard scored his runs slower than run-a-ball.

After building up for quite a bit his stay in the middle ended after Samson caught him off Cummins who bowled a good spell not letting the batsmen off the hook. He scored 26 and took 29 balls for that.

Hardik Pandya – 6/10

One part of the Pandya duo who have been pivotal in Mumbai Indians’ success this season Hardik walked out with the license to go for the kill but the bowlers were too good to give anything away and quite unusually Pandya took more balls to get the big shots. His strike rate was just 104 way below his SR of 190 that he has maintained in this season.

With the ball Hardik bowled 3 overs for just 23 and when skipper Rohit handed him the responsibility for the last over to save 25 runs he gave away just one boundary and closed the game without much ado.

Krunal Pandya – 3/10

Like most other batsmen Krunal didn’t find the ball in the sweet spot of his bat today and with Amit Mishra, bowling well was dismissed for 17 caught behind. Rohit used him for just one over with the ball and the elder Pandya brother spent 8 runs in that over, towards the end he was brilliant in the field saving runs on the boundary for his team to sum up his contribution in the game.

Harbhajan Singh – 3/10

Bhajji hasn’t been his self in this IPL thus far with the wickets not quite turning his way. The turbanator had a mild game today as well as he bowled his 4 overs for 26 runs but couldn’t pick a single wicket in a low scoring game.

Mitchell McClenaghan – 9/10

McClenaghan was the star of the game for Mumbai today. After a dismal batting performance, they needed wickets up front to have a chance to restrict the Daredevils. He gave them exactly that. In his first spell, the Kiwi sent back three of the top 5 DD batsmen and derailed their chase completely.

He finished his spell with figures of 4-0-24-3 and was awarded the man of the match award for his outstanding bowling.

Mitchell Johnson – 4/10

Playing his very first game in this edition of the IPL after re-joining the Mumbai side Johnson had a miserly outing today as he bowled 4 tidy overs which included a maiden. He bowled 14 dot balls and that contributed to the pressure on the Daredevils that didn’t let them off the hook and eventually scripted a win for his team.

Jasprit Bumrah – 6/10

After a few tough games the Indian death bowler was back to his self against DD today. Bumrah was not only economical but also picked up the wickets. He dismissed the dangerous Rishabh Pant for a duck and then bowled Rabada just when the game was drifting away from his team. His figures of 4-0-21-2 were overshadowed by McClenaghan’s MoM winning performance but MI will be mighty pleased with his contribution in the win.
