After what happened to the Delhi Daredevils in Mohali a couple of days ago the team could either break and get into a mode of disarray something that happened to Royal Challengers Bangalore after their defeat in Kolkata or find back their mojo back. The Karun Nair-led team showed enough charge and flux to regain momentum.

While the Sunrisers Hyderabad were coming here on the back of a thumping win over Kolkata Knight Riders the mood in the opposition camp was absolutely different. 185 is a really competitive total on any surface and with the Kotla wicket showing signs of slowing down appeared to be even difficult considering Delhi’s inconsistent batting and Sunrisers’ power packed bowling arsenal.

They went about the task in real professional manner, the young Indian top order was business and contributed if not to their potential certainly to what the team asked for. Nair who hadn’t got the runs thus far opened and got the team off to a brilliant start in the power play it was then followed up by Rishabh Pant’s 34, Shreyas Iyer’s 33. While they got out with the task unfinished Corey Anderson came to the party and finished the game with authority.

Karun won the toss and considering that the wicket would play the same right through decided to bowl first. David Warner would have also liked to bowl but didn’t mind since it is his bat that does the talking. He played his shots though looked in a bit of a trouble against Jayant Yadav who was brought in given SRH’s left-hander heavy batting.

Sunrisers registered their 5th fifty plus stand in the tournament, Mohammed Shami was the first change bowler, Warner hit him for a boundary but he made a splendid comeback on the next ball getting in an exceptional Yorker, was right in the spot and the stumps were out. Dhawan kept his cautious attacking approach and had handled the spinners well before top-edging a sweep on an Amit Mishra delivery which ended his stay at 28.

Kane Williamson who had scored freely in the last two innings was restricted to an extent by the offie Jayant as he bowled quite a few dots. Williamson after scoring 24 became Shami’s second scalp. DD made an expensive mistake on the field as Sanju Samson dropped a mistimed pull shot of Shami at the boundary, he was then batting on 30 odd and went on to make them pay for it with his 41-ball 70 runs knock.

He muscled 11 boundaries and a six as Moises Henriques at the other end also played his part with 18-ball 25 to take the total to 185. Kagiso Rabada who started the season at a high was carted away to all parts of the ground and finished his four overs having conceded 59 runs.

Sanju fell early to Mohammed Siraj but DD had by then managed to score at 10 an over captain Karun Nair also got into the party and had another crucial partnership with Pant who was promoted to No.3. SRH’s confidence on Siddharth Kaul paid off as he has now emerged as a wicket-taker and a pretty economical bowler who can handle the pressure at the death as well.

He picked Nair for 39 that he scored in 20 balls with five boundaries and a couple of sixes. Pant though made some contribution couldn’t finish the job and was bowled by Siraj on 34 off 20. Iyer also added 33, DD decided to promote Corey Anderson to No.5 ahead of Chris Morris and Angelo Mathews, he paid off the faith with a thunderous 41-run knock, finishing off the chase and ensuring there were no further hiccups.

Morris was there at the other end to keep the flow going and added 15 from just 7 balls. They sailed over the target with 6 wickets and 5 balls in hand and registered two valuable points on the table that still keeps their playoffs hopes alive.

Brief Score:
