Delhi Daredevils had no form whatsoever coming into today’s game. They had lost five games on a trot and were heading the exit doors. On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad were in fantastic form. Their openers were chipping in with some big runs and with the best bowling attack in the league, they are defending their title extremely well.

The game started well for Hyderabad as their openers, after been asked to bat, got off to a good start. However, they were halted by the slow bowlers of Delhi only to be rescued by a masterful Yuvraj Singh. Warner and co were looking to bury them with a huge score but Delhi bowlers managed to keep it to a gettable 185.

With a young batting lineup and a series of future Indian stars, Delhi got off to a flier. All of their top order batters got crucial 30s and 40s to give their team a welcome victory as they made sure their team is still in it. Let us look at some of the crucial moments that shaped the game as it happened.

1. Warner and Dhawan ensure a good start

Time and again, this pair of left-handers has provided Sunrisers Hyderabad with magnificent opening stands. Recently, they were involved in two back to back century partnerships. Even today they managed to put up a decent 53 run partnership which laid a solid foundation for their formidable middle order. They probably would have gone on to score a few more but were stopped in their tracks by Mohammad Shami.

2. Yuvraj Singh’s exquisite knock

After the first game against Bangalore, Yuvraj Singh hardly got going. He was out with illness for a few games but was not himself upon the comeback as well. However, today was a Yuvraj Singh masterclass as he took the Delhi bowlers on. He started out extremely slow as he had scored only 19 runs of the first 21 deliveries he faced but then bludgeoned the bowlers to all parts of the ground to take SRH to a good total of 185. He scored 70 runs of 41 deliveries hitting 11 fours and 1 six.

3. Slow bowlers win the middle overs for Delhi

Amit Mishra and Jayant Yadav bowled extremely well during the middle overs as Sunrisers were not able to score runs off them. After getting off to a good start, Delhi plowed their way back through the spinners. Amit Mishra was key to restricting SRH in the middle overs as he bowled an excellent spell. Mishra gave away just 23 runs in his 4 overs picking up an all-important wicket of Shikhar Dhawan. This kept the Sunrisers at bay which made sure they did not post a total out of their reach.

4. Karun Nair finally gets going

Nair was trusted with his captaincy as Dravid handed him the armband after Zaheer suffered a hamstring injury. The Bangalore-lad who had been a shadow of himself since the triple century scored 39 runs today. Those 39 might not look like big score but were extremely important as it got Delhi off to a good start. He scored those runs in just 20 balls as he was striking it superbly well. Karun Nair would feel a bit confident after the knock as it helped his team register a victory over one of the best sides in the league.

5. Corey Anderson comes back to life

Corey Anderson played a very crucial knock today. He came into bat at a very tricky position. Delhi were 109 for 3 when Anderson came out and needed another 76 runs to win in 50 odd deliveries. It was important for Corey to dig in and stay at the crease and not look for big shots straight away. He did exactly that and rotated the strike well while hitting the oddball for a boundary. Anderson scored solid 41 runs of 24 balls taking his team to a much-needed victory.
