At the halfway mark of the game, it would have been certain that the Royal Challengers Bangalore fans would have gone frenzy, for once they hoped that their team would come away with a win, but wait they managed to lose from that position.

Kings XI Punjab, batting on the Chinnaswamy deck managed only to scrape through to score 138 runs in their 20 overs with the loss of 7 wickets. The target seemed relatively easy for a batting line-up that consisted the likes of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle.

The batting Trident failed once again this season, and what that meant to the Kings XI Punjab is they got the two points required to carry on their momentum towards the playoffs. RCB collapsed to a total of 119 in 19 overs losing the match by 19 runs.

Here are the Kings XI Punjab Player Ratings for the RCB v KXIP encounter:

1) Hashim Amla- 5/10

A rare failure for the South African Hashim Amla in this year’s IPL after his blazing start to the tournament with the 100 against the Mumbai Indians. It seemed like the opening pair struggled to find the timing against the likes of Aniket Choudary and Sreenath Aravind in the opening few overs. The South African got out for three runs in the very first over of the innings.

2) Martin Guptill- 6/10

The Kiwi opener, too, like his counterpart failed to get the start that Maxwell and co would have hoped for from the opening pair. After a few impressive innings in the tournament, the right-hander had no clue to the remarkable bowling from the RCB’s opening bowlers. The Kiwi scored nine runs from 10 balls, which signified his struggle in the middle of the wicket.

3) Shaun Marsh- 7/10

Shaun Marsh started his innings off with two consecutive boundaries of the bowling of fellow Aussie Shane Watson. It almost seemed like the left-hander picked up from where he left against the Sunrisers Hyderabad previously in the season with some mind-blowing drives in the first six. The Aussie batsman was dismissed by the intelligent bowling from the left-arm spinner Pawan Negi for 20 runs.

4) Manan Vohra- 7/10

The hero of the Kings XI Punjab failed to find his real touch in the game, with a single lusty blow in his 28 ball stay. The batsman scored 25 runs in his stay in the middle, finding it very difficult to connect the ball to the middle of the bat. It was a disappointing display from the Indian, who had earlier shown one of the tournament’s best knocks in the game against the Sunrisers where he looked to take the game away from the opposition.

5) Wriddhiman Saha- 6/10

The numero uno Indian Test wicketkeeper, just like the other batsmen, found it hard to smack on the pitch where the ball did most of the talking. The right-handed batsman from Bengal found it hard to time the ball and give the momentum that the team were looking for with his 25 balls 21 run inning.

6) Glenn Maxwell- 7/10

The Australian all-rounder and Kings XI Punjab skipper Glenn Maxwell looked very aggressive during his stay in the middle, with a boundary under his hood. However, during the over bowled by Yuzvendra Chahal, he found it rather very hard to rotate the strike and failed to try to hit the bowler for a switch hit. The all-rounder made it up with the ball in his hand picking up two wickets in his three economical overs where he gave away only 15 runs.

7) Axar Patel- 9/10

Indian all-rounder Axar Patel looked the best of the players on the pitch at the Chinnaswamy with his sensational innings with the bat and the street-smart bowling with the ball. It was the all-rounder who made the winning edge to the Kings XI Punjab side after failing to recover from their bad start with the bat with a knock of 38 runs from 17 balls, with two sixes and three boundaries.

With the ball in his hand, the all-rounder picked up three wickets for just 11 runs making him a contender for the Man of the Match.

8) Mohit Sharma- 7/10

The right-arm seam bowler from Haryana played an instrumental role in the side’s 19 run win over the home side. The seamer scored a boundary which made the total slightly tougher for the home side to chase. With the ball in his hand, the bowler picked up the crucial wicket of Kedar Jadhav and topped it up with the wicket of Aniket Choudary with figures of 2/24.

9) Varun Aaron- 6/10

The seamer was the most disappointing player on the pitch by far. The right-arm pacer never seemed to have taken off in the crucial game, neither with the bat nor with the ball going for as many as 28 runs in his four overs. While his bowling partners took wickets at tandem, the bowler struggled to prove his worth in the match.

10) Sandeep Sharma- 10/10

This is one game that right-arm swing bowler would never forget in his life. It was like the quick was in a dreamland, with the wickets of Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. This spell surely is one for the CV and the bowler one for the future. The bowler should get more opportunities at the top level of the International game, with figures of 3/22 his journey seems ever-so-closer.

11) T Natarajan- 6/10

The left-arm quick from Tamil Nadu had a disappointing match, to say the least. The performance definitely did not justify the sum that the franchise paid for acquiring the services of the young bowler. The bowler has always been known for his deadly yorkers and change of pace, but was battered and bruised by Chris Gayle in this innings with figures of 0/15 in his one over.
