Delhi Daredevils savaged some pride by defeating Gujarat Lions in an inconsequential encounter at the Green Park in Kanpur. It was a brilliant innings from youngster Shreyas Iyer which ensured Delhi chased the stiff target with a couple of deliveries to spare. Earlier in the day a swashbuckling 67 from Aaron Finch and a composed 40 by Dinesh Karthik ensured Gujarat Lions reached a commendable total of 195/5 in their allotted 20 overs.

All the bowlers went for runs with Mohammed Shami returning with the best figures of 1/36 in his 4 overs. Delhi lost wickets at regular intervals but it was the partnership between Shreyas Iyer and Pat Cummins in the last 5 overs which tilted the scales in favour of the Daredevils. Iyer was dismissed with 7 required of the last 4 deliveries but Amit Mishra held his nerves and struck back to back boundaries to win the match for Delhi.

That said here we have a look at the players ratings of Delhi Daredevils from the 50th match of the tournament

Sanju Samson- 2/10

The young opener began with a couple of spanking boundaries but couldn’t carry on and was dismissed for 10. Attempting another big shot, Samson chopped a short of length delivery straight on to his stumps. With two games remaining he will surely look to come back to some run scoring form.

Karun Nair- 5/10

Nair played some wonderful shots up front to get Delhi of to a solid start. Despite the loss of two early wickets, Karun went against the Gujarat bowlers and succeeded in piercing the gaps. His brief innings of 30 of 15 deliveries contained 5 fours and a solitary maximum before James Faulkner bamboozled him with a well disguised slower delivery. It was definitely the start Delhi needed but he would like to carry on in the remaining two matches.

Rishabh Pant- 1/10

He has been an inconsistent batsman, to say the least. One the day the southpaw leaves everyone awestruck with his exceptional strokeplay and the very next day he gets out in the weirdest of fashions. After smashing a boundary to open his account, Pant was run out in the very next delivery as captain Suresh Raina made full use of Pant’s loss in concentration.

Shreyas Iyer- 9/10

It was the exceptional innings from the right-hander which ignited the hopes of Delhi and eventually helped them clinch a nail-biting thriller. Despite the loss of wickets at regular intervals, Iyer kept Delhi’s hopes alive with a scintillating display of batsmanship. He relied more on his ground shots and struck as many as 15 fours and 2 maximums during his 57 balls 96.

The young man literally toyed with the Gujarat bowlers and it was his effortless strokeplay in the 17th and the 18th over which totally tilted the scales in Delhi’s favour. He was dismissed by Basil Thampi with Delhi requiring 7 of 4 but Amit Mishra struck a couple of consecutive boundaries to win the match for DD.

Marlon Samuels- 1/10

It was another bad day in the office for Caribbean middle order batsman Marlon Samuels. He could manage a solitary run before a brilliance in the field by Ravindra Jadeja sent him back to the pavilion. Jaddu executed a brilliant direct throw which left Samuels short of his crease.

Corey Anderson- 2/10

The Kiwi all-rounder had a mediocre day in the office and it was again the brilliance of Ravindra Jadeja in the field which led to his downfall. He finished with unimpressive figures of 0/19 in the 2 overs he bowled.

Carlos Brathwaite- 5/10

The Caribbean all-rounder bagged a solitary wicket during his four overs spell and made 11 of 10 deliveries. He was hammered for 38 runs in 4 overs but all the bowlers were given some stick by the GL batsmen. He bagged the crucial wicket of Dinesh Karthik and struck a couple of boundaries during his innings of 11.

Pat Cummins- 7/10

It was the little cameo from the blade of Pat Cummins which allowed Delhi to claw their way back into the match. The fast bowler stitched together a valuable 61 runs partnership in 4.3 overs which were the final nail in the coffin for Gujarat. Cummins struck a couple of fours and a six during his 13 balls 24.

With the ball in hand, the Aussie bowled in the right areas upfront but got some treatment during the later stages. He eventually finished with 1/38 in 4 overs with the prized wicket of opposition captain Suresh Raina.

Mohammed Shami- 5/10

Shami hasn’t been in the best of rhythms of late but was the most successful Delhi bowler. He finished with figures of 1/36 in his 4 overs and remained unbeaten on 4 of 2 deliveries as DD managed to crawl over the line by 2 wickets and with 2 deliveries to spare. It was a good effort by the Delhi lad and he will look to get back to rhythm before the Champions Trophy in England.

Amit Mishra- 4/10

The leg-spinner had a topsy-turvy day in the office. While he was smashed for 27 runs in his 2 overs, he did manage to smash a couple of boundaries, in the end, to help DD win the match by 2 wickets and with a couple of deliveries to spare. With 7 required off the last 4 over, Mishra stepped down the track to smash a boundary and followed it up with a scoop with went over the fine leg boundary due to a misfield by the fielder.

Zaheer Khan- 2/10

The captain of the team hasn’t played an influential role and even today the left-arm seamer went wicketless. In his four overs, Zaheer bowled at an economy rate of 7.50 to finish with 0/30.
