Defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad showed their mettle in the final match of the group stage and confirmed their progress to the play offs after defeating Gujarat Lions by 8 wickets and with 11 deliveries to spare. Courtesy their victory, Hyderabad has moved to the 2bnd spot in the points table but the final list will be revealed only after the completion of tomorrow’s double header.

Gujarat Lions got off to a brilliant start after batting first with Ishan Kishan going great guns but a middle order stutter halted their progress as they were reduced to 123/5 from 120/1. Fast bowler Mohammed Siraj and Rashid Khan was the wrecker in chief for the visitors finishing with 4 and 3 wickets respectively.

Chasing a modest target, Hyderabad lost Shikhar Dhawan early but David Warner had other plans. Despite struggling in the initial part of his innings, Warner held his nerves and grew in confidence as the innings progressed. He was brilliantly supported by Vijay Shankar who remained unbeaten on 59. That said here we have a look at the player ratings for Hyderabad

Shikhar Dhawan- 3/10

The southpaw has looked in ominous touch throughout the tournament and began in a spanking fashion even today. Chasing a modest target, the left-hander began with four boundaries of Praveen Kumar and Pradeep Sangwan. He stepped down the track and treated Praveen Kumar with disdain. Praveen Kumar brought about his downfall as the southpaw was holed out in mid off region.

David Warner- 9/10

The captain has been the most prolific run scorer for Hyderabad in the tournament over the years. Though his beginning was indifferent and he was struggling to time ball, he slowly started growing in confidence and eventually smashed his way to a well-constructed half-century and ensured Hyderabad chased the total down with 11 balls to spare.

Moises Henriques- 1/10

The Aussie all-rounder had a rather disappointing day in the office and failed to make an impact with both bat and the ball. He bowled just a solitary over where he conceded 12 runs and managed to score only 4 runs with the bat.

Vijay Shankar- 9/10

The Tamil Nadu batsman who captained his side to the Vijay Hazare Trophy title triumph scored his maiden half-century today and looked in great touch with his captain David Warner. After the loss of a couple of wickets, Shankar joined Warner in the middle and played some delightful shots to get going. His unbeaten knock of 63 of 44 deliveries included 6 hits to the fence.

Deepak Hooda- 2/10

The Middle order batsman has a sedate day as he neither batted nor bowled during the course of the match. His only contribution in the match was the catch of Dinesh Karthik of the bowling of Rashid Khan.

Mohammed Nabi- 6/10

The Afghan veteran had a decent outing. He bowled three overs in the day and was unable to scalp a breakthrough but finished with a good economy rate of fewer than 6 overs. He conceded 17 runs in his 3 overs and didn’t get a chance to bat.

Naman Ojha -2/10

The wicket-keeper batsman had nothing to do in the batting department. Even while keeping he didn’t take a catch nor executed a stumping.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar- 7/10

The leading wicket taker in the tournament bagged a couple of wickets in the final two deliveries of the Gujatrat Lions innings to finish with impressive figures of 2/25 in 3.2 overs. He got some treatment early on but came on strongly to castle the stumps of Praveen Kumar and Munaf Patel in consecutive deliveries.

Rashid Khan- 8/10

The leggie from Afghanistan continued his good work in the tournament and finished with 3 wickets in his spell. He conceded 17 runs in his opening over but came back strongly to dismiss three top order batsmen. His wickets included some real power hitters with the most important being that of Dwayne Smith who fell at 54.

The other two wickets included those of Dinesh Karthik and Aaron Finch. While Karthik was holed out in the deep of a full toss, Finch was castled by a googly as he went for a wild heave through the leg side.

Siddharth Kaul- 5/10

The man in form had a relatively off day and finished with 1/30 in his allotted 4 overs. He went for 24 in his first 2 overs but made a strong comeback in his back two overs and also bagged the wicket of Ankit Soni during the later part of the innings.

Mohammed Siraj- 9/10

He was the stand out bowler for Hyderabad and was exceptional during his 4 overs spell. He troubled the Gujarat batsmen with his nippy pace on a consistent basis and finished with 4 wickets for 33 runs.

The fast bowler began with the prized wicket of Ishan Kishan when the southpaw was going great guns and followed it up with the wicket of rival captain, Suresh Raina. After making an impact in his opening spell, the burly fast bowler came back to remove James Faulkner and Ankit Soni to finish with impressive figures of 4/33.
