Kings XI Punjab seems to have gotten back on the right track in the ongoing edition of the IPL. At the midway stage of the tournament, it looked as if the KXIP camp was derailing yet again like the last two editions of the tournament. Recently, the registered an emphatic 10-wicket win against the Delhi Daredevils to jump to the fifth spot in the points table. It was the superlative spell by Sandeep Sharma that set up the stage for the big win.

Sandeep bagged 4/20 in his quota of 4 overs to run through the Delhi top order. The Daredevils bundled out for a paltry 67 in 17.1 overs in the match. KXIP openers Martin Guptill and Hashim Amla did the rest as they cruised the past total in about 8 overs. Reflecting back at the match, Sandeep Sharma noted that the win was crucial for them as it would give them the winning momentum.

“We needed to win and I think momentum will shift now and we will gain winning momentum. We still have five games left and we will play better to reach the playoffs of the tournament,” he quoted.

Speaking about his own performances, he remarked that he backed his own strengths. He knew that he can make the ball swing around with the new ball and hence was ready to go for the attack right from the word go. The new ball helps him bowl dot balls to create pressure on the batsman.

“I back my strengths as I know T20 is hard for bowlers, we know batsmen will come hard at you, so the best chance to keep them quiet is taking wickets. Actually, swinging new ball during the power play is my strength. I try to take early wickets and when you have a new batsman at the crease, it increases my percentage to bowl dot balls,” Sandeep Sharma said after the match.

The win over the Delhi Daredevils marked the first win for the Kings XI Punjab at their home venue Mohali this season. Sandeep commented that the advantage of playing at the home venue has been very beneficial for him. He knew that the pitch would be slow in the first few overs and hence made the maximum use of it.

“I am local, this is my home ground and I know during day matches, the wicket plays a bit slow. I was trying to pitch the ball up and that benefited. This game was crucial for us. If we win most of remaining five games, we will reach playoffs,” said the KXIP pacer.

When asked to pick a player who motivates him the most or perhaps is his favorite cricketer, Sandeep Sharma responded with the names of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. “Virat is my favorite batsman, players like him and AB De Villiers give you self-belief,” he quoted.
