The Delhi Daredevils camp will be without the services of their three premier overseas players in the remainder of the season. South African duo of Chris Morris and Kagiso Rabada are all set to fly to England to join the national side. South Africa are scheduled to play 3 ODIs against England in the short series commencing on May 24. The series is expected to be their preparatory series for the ICC Champions Trophy that commences on June 1.
Prior to the 3-match ODI series, the South African team will also play two warm-up matches scheduled to be played on May 19 and May 21. Along with Chris Morris and Kagiso Rabada, Sri Lanka all-rounder Angelo Mathews has also been called back by the Sri Lanka cricket to be a part of the preparatory camp for the ICC Champions Trophy. Mathews will be leading the Sri Lanka team in the ICC mega event this June.
Certainly, the Delhi Daredevils camp will feel jolted by the departure of their top three preferred overseas players. Among the lot, the services of Chris Morris will be missed the most. Morris has been their top wicket taker this season. However, he had missed the last couple of games for Delhi camp due to a slight niggle. The departure of the three players could well mean the chance beckoning for the other players in the lineup.
Earlier, opener Sam Billings had also left the squad to join the England team for the ODI series against Ireland. At the moment, Delhi Daredevils still have powerhouse players like Corey Anderson, Pat Cummins, Carlos Brathwaite, and Marlon Samuels on their roster who are likely to make up the four overseas for the remaining fixtures. The team is almost out of contention for the playoffs.
They have three league games remaining to be played this season. They will take on Gujarat Lions in Kanpur on May 10 in their next encounter this season.
