It is not often that teams are wanting to change their home venues, especially when they are winning all at home. However, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), who have won all their three games in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 in Mohali, have requested the organisers to shift four of their remaining home games out of Mohali. Ravi Ashwin’s side is set to play RCB, RR, KKR and CSK at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali, on April 13, 16, May 3 and May 5 respectively.

However, the BCCI run by the Committee of Administrators (CoA) might not find it easy to accept the request since the Lok Sabha election is also underway and there could be concerns over ensuring adequate security. The KXIP want their final two games to be played in Lucknow. However, Lucknow will go to polls on May 6 along with many other seats in UP and that could be one constraint in the way of shifting the games.

Police permission is key, says CoA chief

CoA chairman Vinod Rai requested about getting the request from Kings XI but said the final call could be taken only after taking into account the security arrangements at the alternate venue. “The request has come but we can’t just shift matches without getting the police permission to hold the matches in Lucknow. The police don’t want us to hold the matches a week before and after the polling date,” Sportstar quoted Rai as saying.

This is not the first time though that the KXIP are wanting to play at other venues. In 2018, they played only three of their seven home games in Mohali while the rest were played in Indore. The Kings have created a record by winning seven games on the trot in Mohali but they are still eyeing to shit their matches.

The KXIP are currently at No.4 in the points table with eight points from seven games and suffered a three-wicket loss in their last game against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
